Dr Angela Kent is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist having qualified 14 years ago from the University of Birmingham.
She works some of her time in the NHS and initially this was within adult mental health in North Warwickshire, developing services for people with eating disorders, survivors of abuse and was responsible for all neuropsychological referrals for the under 65 year olds. For the last 8 years she has been responsible for Psychology Services for the older adult population across two localities in Derbyshire. She has expertise in providing psychological assessments and therapies as well consultation with colleagues across a wide range of settings; both hospital and community based. She manages all referrals and waiting lists and liaises with other professionals within a wider community team and trust. She inputs into strategic and service planning and represent psychology on a number of planning groups (e.g., Best Practice Group for survivors of abuse; Clinical Research Network; Eating disorders).
Of particular interest and area of specialism has been working with the carers of people suffering with all forms of dementia (e.g., fronto temporal and semantic dementia) and developing a range of services for these families. Providing clinical supervision to other professionals forms a significant part of this work over more recent years, both to individuals and to groups. For example, for 2 years she provided group supervision to the care staff at Rainbow's Hospice in their work with the parents and siblings of young people with life threatening illnesses.
Since 2005 Angela has also worked within the private sector developing her interest and expertise in working with individuals and families following trauma. Having trained in a range of therapeutic approaches Angela works eclectically and is experienced at providing complex formulations and adapting therapeutic interventions to meet the clients' or families specific needs. This may involve employing a Cognitive Behavioural approach if the problems have a clear cause or a more in depth approach, such as exploratory psychotherapy if the difficulties are of longer standing or more complex. She is interested in coping, resilience and adjustment in their broadest forms including the existential concerns often tapped following life changing trauma and has published several research articles about adjustment to adversity.
Angela has also worked as an Assessor for the statement of equivalence (BPS) and was their Chief Assessor for 3 years. Angela speaks French and practised in Northern France for 4 years.
