Jean Lees
Clinical and Educational Psychologist
Jean is dually qualified as both a clinical and educational psychologist. She has recently completed nine years of service within the NHS in Herefordshire. She developed and led a team of psychologists and community nurses providing a service to children with learning disabilities, many of whom were on the autistic spectrum.
She previously worked for ten years as an educational psychologist in Wolverhampton. Within a multi-cultural, urban setting she provided psychological assessment for children and advice to teachers across a number of mainstream and special schools.
Jean enjoys working directly with young people, drawing on systemic, behavioural and cognitive approaches and ensuring that the pace and content of sessions are adapted to meet individual needs. She is particularly interested in enabling families to gain the information that they need to better understand their child, to help them develop new skills and improve behaviour.
Jean has a special interest in language development and the adult's role in fostering communication skills. Her research degree (MPhil) thesis was on "Conversational Strategies with Deaf Children". She began her career as a qualified teacher of the deaf and has taught in a residential school for the deaf and two mainstream schools.
Jean is a member of the British Psychological Society and Division of Clinical Psychology. She is registered with the Health Professions Council.
