Dr Lara Walford
Chartered Clinical Psychologist
Lara Walford is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist. She has worked at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital NHS Trust providing a psychological service to the Sickle Cell team and to general paediatrics. During this role, Lara was involved in developing a service providing neuropsychological assessment and intervention for children with Sickle Cell. Lara started her career as a primary school teacher and she continues to have a keen interest in working with teachers to ensure children's needs are met within the educational system.
Lara did her Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology at Salomons, Canterbury Christ Church University. Her doctoral research looked at young children's ability to engage in cognitive behavioural therapy.
Lara also worked for 3 years with adolescents and young people at risk of developing mental health difficulties and is co author on a number of papers looking at the prevention of psychosis using a cognitive approach. During this time she developed a special interest in adolescence and the developmental hurdles faced during this period and its relationship to mental health and presented her research findings at a national British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) conference.
She also co-ran a self help group for young people and their families with Eating Disorders for a number of years.
Lara is a member of the British Psychological Society and the BABCP.
