Mike Hope

Relationship Manager

Mike Hope has some 15 years experience of working with adults and young people wih acquired brain injuries, and supporting their families. His professional background is as a social worker, having worked in this capacity for 4 local authorities, almost entirely with adults with disabilities. Through this he started to become interested in the largely unmet needs of people with brain injuries, and as a result he started a professional journey away from generic social work and towards brain injury specialism. He worked for 6 years as Acquired Brain Injury Coordinator for East Sussex and Brighton & Hove, during which time he had contact with  several hundred ABI people and their families, as well as liaising with professionals from the acute hospital stage through rehabilitation and out into the community. He became aware at this time of the need for a clear and comprehensive pathway for ABI people to which all professionals subscribe, which can lead individuals towards greater independence and social engagement. He also became aware of the need for different services (Health, social care, childrens services, adult services, mental health, learning disability, physical disability) to work together in a more 'joined-up' manner, and for the general profile of brain injury services to be raised by campaigning and education.

Mike Hope is a brain injury case manager in East Anglia for 4 days of each week, and he is also on the national committees of the United Kingdom ABI Forum (UKABIF) and the Brain Injury Social Work Group (BISWG). For both organisations he leads the development of new regional groups and forums around the country. He is also a Trustee of one of the Suffolk Headways. He works with Recolo one day a week.
