Dr. Gavin Lockhart

Dr. Gavin Lockhart

Dr Gavin Lockhart is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and registered with the Health Professions Council. Gavin started his professional career working with adults with learning disabilities in a community day centre. Since then he has gained 13 years experience working with children, young people and their families, with 8½ of these working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in West London and the South of England. After qualifying as a clinical psychologist Gavin has worked in a variety of teams in including a child development centre and both specialist services for children aged 0-12 and adolescents with complex needs. Gavin currently manages a CAMHS service in South East Hampshire.

Gavin has a strong interest in neuro-developmental disorders and gained experience in this area prior to training as a clinical psychologist. This interest continued during training with a specialist placement working with children and young people with neuro-developmental disorders. Since training Gavin has spoken at national and regional conferences and special interest groups on the topic of adapting therapy for children with these difficulties.

Gavin's doctoral dissertation focused on the development of emotion regulation and this is something that has continued to be of interest, particularly with respect to the impact of attachment and trauma on brain development and subsequently emotion regulation. Gavin is an honorary lecturer at the University of Southampton and provides regular teaching on the clinical psychology training course in the areas of CBT, psychometric assessment, attachment and child protection.
