Neuropsychology
Neuropsychological assessment involves a child taking part in a variety of standardised tests which looks at various intellectual and higher cognitive skills such as attention, memory, visual perception, reasoning and verbal ability. The psychologist will look closely at how a child performs on these tests, as well as collecting relevant information from parents and teachers about the child's history, academic and behavioural functioning. The psychologist will put all this information together and make an opinion about the impact of the brain injury or neurological disorder on their cognitive abilities, learning and overall development. The assessment will also enable the psychologist to make recommendations for helping further rehabilitation or in education.
