Following a brain injury both the child and the family have to adjust to a vast array of significant changes in the child, in the family and in their everyday routines, and in relationships with other people and wider community. Often families need support as they grieve and adjust to the changes that have occurred. We work with families, facilitating conversations about difficult and emotional topics, including their sadness about what has happened, their role in caring for and advocating for their child and how they fit in the rehabilitating process. We believe that this is a crucial aspect to optimal rehabilitation of the child as it is now widely acknowledged that when a family are adjusting and functioning well, this is likely to positively affect the child's academic, behavioural and emotional functioning.
