Dr Katie Byard is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, registered with the HCPC and chartered with the British Psychological Society.

Katie has always held a particular interest in the human brain and brain-behaviour relationships and before clinical training, was a Research Psychologist at Imperial College, London, investigating the neuronal correlates of learning in Parkinson’s Disease.

Since gaining her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2002, Katie has chosen to specialise in working with children, young people, and their families. She has worked in the NHS, private and charity sectors delivering clinical input into paediatric, child and adolescent mental health, and child neuropsychology services.

Katie has highly specialised experience in the delivery of neuropsychological rehabilitation following childhood brain injury to young people and their families. She is a passionate advocate of the need to hold a developmental and systemic perspective during rehabilitation and seeks to work collaboratively and creatively with children and their families and all those supporting them, to support psychological and emotional wellbeing, and development. Her strong interest in the development of systemic thinking and practice in rehabilitation includes the integral role of families in a child’s recovery and development, and is a key part of her clinical practice today.

Katie is committed to the regular dissemination of clinical skills at national conferences, through publications and teaching and as Director of Recolo, holds a senior clinical, supervisory and management role. She has co-edited - Neuropsychological Rehabilitation of Childhood Brain Injury: A practical guide (2015).

Howard holds an honorary post at the Royal London Hospital where he offers specialist consultation in Paediatric Neuropsychology, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and neuropsychological assessment. Howard has considerable experience of the NHS, having previously been responsible for delivering highly specialised paediatric input to the Royal London Hospital children's services, as well as offering specialist child neuropsychological consultation services for clinicians working in the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham.

Further to his doctoral research on ‘Resilience to PTSD in Emergency Workers', Howard provided consultation to the London Helicopter Emergency Service and London Underground following the July 2005 London bombings, as well as offering specialist educative support and consultation to local Mental Health services.

Howard is a member of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's / British Red Cross Emergency Psychosocial Support Team, responding to international disasters involving British citizens, with previous deployments to Portugal and Zimbabwe. Howard also sits on the Clinical Advisory Group for the National Trauma Networks, advising on policy and service provision for frontline trauma services.

Howard is committed to delivering regular input and dissemination of skills at national conferences, through publications, and teaching, including providing specialist Paediatric Neuropsychology and Development teaching to Doctoral Clinical Psychology courses at the University of East London (UEL), Royal Holloway University of London, Salomons Centre for Applied Psychology (Canterbury Christ Church University), and the University of Surrey. Howard also contributes to the UCL MSc Clinical and Applied Paediatric Neuropsychology Training Programme at the Institute of Child Health. 

Howard has appeared on the BBC 10 O'clock News consulting on Psychological aspects of terrorism, and Channel 4 programming on Child Development and education. He is also regularly a Consulting Psychologist on a number of documentaries and health education programmes in production for the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Sky.

As well as holding a clinical caseload, as a director of Recolo, Howard holds senior clinical, supervisory and management roles. He has co-authored an essential reader on childhood brain injury intervention - Neuropsychological Rehabilitation of Childhood Brain Injury with his co-directors of Recolo.

Dr Sophie Gosling is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist. She joined Recolo in 2011, and from 2015, is the Clinical Lead for the organisation.

After obtaining a BSc (Hons), first class in Psychology from Bristol University in 1989, she completed her clinical training at Oxford and qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 1993. She brings both a breadth and depth of clinical expertise in work effectively with children and their families.

She is a BPS Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow (AFBPsS, awarded to psychologists recognised to have considerable experience and competence within the field). She is on the BPS Supervisors’ register and is a member of the ACAMH. She completed the UCL Paediatric Neuropsychology Post-Graduate Diploma in 2016 and is a full member of the Division of Neuropsychology.

Her areas of special interest and expertise are in the field of paediatric brain injury rehabilitation. She seeks to engage and work with families collaboratively, bringing expertise from her extensive clinical experience as well as being able to formulate and intervene at a number of levels: child, family and system. She uses a goals systems approach to her work with families which ensures that clinical work is focussed, measurable and meaningful.

She uses her neuropsychological knowledge within a developmental and systemic framework; recognising that children are surrounded by different families, communities and influences as they develop. She is also interested in enabling children and young people to negotiate successful transitions throughout their life, for example the crucial transition to young adulthood. She uses systemic approaches to working with families and the wider system and brings expertise in working creatively and effectively with children’s emotional and psychological needs.

In her NHS work she has worked with vulnerable families with complex and multiple needs in the Paediatric hospital and community CAMHS sectors; e.g. leading on mental health services for adolescents, building a community and paediatric HIV service in South London, working with many asylum seeking families.

Her independent work in Belgium and London included conducting detailed comprehensive assessments of children’s psychological and educational needs and working with children from English as a second language and multi-lingual backgrounds. Her work in both Belgium and Australia adds to her expertise in working with families from a wider range of cultural contexts and an appreciation of how these differences need to be accounted for in clinical work.

She also has a strong academic background; working as Admissions Tutor, Associate Clinical Tutor lecturer and supervisor of doctoral theses for the Clinical Psychology Doctorate at Royal Holloway, University College London and has been an External Examiner for other Clinical Psychology Training courses. In Sydney, Australia, she worked on a large healthcare research program and was part of a successful large-scale research grant award.

She has co-authored over 20 papers and articles, won a ‘Best paper’ award in Australia and has presented at numerous conferences.

Rebecca Ashton qualified as an Educational Psychologist in 2003 and gained her Diploma in Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychology in 2010.  She has been working in child neuropsychology ever since, winning a British Psychological Society Division of Neuropsychology prize in 2013 for outstanding practice.  

Rebecca has 11 years’ experience working as an educational psychologist for a Local Authority.  Since leaving in 2014 she has worked in a specialist NHS paediatric neuropsychology service, in private companies offering psychology services in the community, and directly for schools. Rebecca now splits her time between educational psychology work commissioned by schools and specialist brain injury rehabilitation for Recolo.

As well as her practitioner work, Rebecca enjoys learning, teaching and writing. Rebecca completed her Doctorate in Educational Psychology in 2016, with a thesis on sleep and working memory. She is also an accredited Video Interaction Guidance practitioner, achieving full qualification in 2018. She teaches on neuropsychology courses at UCL and Manchester University. Rebecca contributed the chapter on educational neuropsychology to "Neuropsychological Rehabilitation of Childhood Brain Injury", a book edited by the Directors of Recolo. She also has numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Rebecca has also written on diverse topics including shaken baby syndrome, transition to secondary school, writing directly to children and social competence in children with brain injury.

Rebecca is a registered practitioner psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors, a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society,
and a Full member of the Association of Educational Psychologists.

Dr Fiona Jeffries is an experienced HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist who has, from the very start of her psychology career, shown a keen interest in working with children and young people with acquired brain injuries. Her training and experience enable her to work therapeutically with families across the lifecycle, spanning development stages and supporting health and wellbeing. Fiona is committed to providing compassionate, tailored psychological assessments and interventions for children, families and teams.

Since spending time during her undergraduate degree volunteering with Headway, Fiona has continued to gain further skills and experience working in both community and hospital settings. Dr Jeffries received a first class degree in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh in 2008 and then completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2012 at the University of Surrey. She has also completed Level 1 and Level 2 Narrative Therapy, Foundation Level Family Therapy & Systemic Practice and has completed advanced Supervision Skills training in both Systemic Approaches and Neuropsychological Assessment. Fiona has had a number of articles published in Psychological journals.

Along with working for Recolo, Fiona works at Great Ormond Street Hospital as a Senior Paediatric Clinical Psychologist where she supports families whose child has complex medical needs. Her role at Great Ormond Street Hospital also involves providing consultation, supervision and teaching to the wider multidisciplinary team. Fiona also holds positions as Honorary Clinical Lecturer and Associate Clinical Tutor at University College London and works independently in private practice.

Dr Lindsey Wood is a passionate and dedicated clinical psychologist with 10 years of post-qualification experience working both within the NHS and privately. She has chartered status with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is also registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Lindsey has experience of working with physical health and emotional needs across the lifespan. However, she has specialised in working with children, adolescents and families around the impact of loss and trauma, and chronic physical health difficulties. Of particular relevance, prior to qualifying, Lindsey worked at a rehabilitation unit for adults who had experienced a brain injury and other neuropsychological difficulties. Lindsey's post-qualification experience has included working in the paediatric team at the Royal Marsden Hospital with children who had a brain tumour or were long-term survivors of a brain tumour and the neuropsychological consequences of this. She has also worked for 10 years in a CAMHS team within the NHS, specialising in working with children and their families who have experienced trauma, chronic physical health and attachment difficulties.

Lindsey works in an integrative way, drawing upon several different therapeutic ideas and techniques (e.g. CBT, narrative, systemic and attachment), adapting her therapeutic style to best fit for each child, young person and family she works with. This considers the neuropsychological and physical needs of each family member. Above all, Lindsey aims to build a warm, non-judgemental and safe space to explore any difficulties and potential solutions and is passionate about working in a collaborative way. Lindsey has had specialist training and experience in treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (i.e. EMDR, TF-CBT, and NET), and has experience of using these approaches with both children and adults.

Dr Megan Prowse is a HCPC registered clinical psychologist and fully accredited CBT therapist (BABCP). Megan has worked in a range of NHS and private settings, with young people of all ages and provided family and school support through a range of modalities including CBT and systemic interventions.

After becoming a fully accredited CBT therapist with Institute of Psychiatry at Kings College London, Megan completed her Doctorate at university of Bath, alongside which she took on additional Diploma in intermediate systemic therapy at University of Bath. Due to Megan’s extensive pre-doctorate experience, during her Doctorate, she specialised in complex paediatric, neuropsychology and trauma work.

On finishing her Doctorate Megan became the sole psychologist in the specialist neurorehabilitation team in Oxford Children’s Hospital, helping to provide family support, neuropsychological assessments and interventions for acute and longer-term rehabilitation. She also worked for the outpatient neuropsychology department providing cognitive assessments and interventions for individuals, families and schools to support neuropsychological needs in young people.

After this role she moved to Great Ormond Street hospital (GOSH) to become Lead psychologist for Neurology. At GOSH she provided assessment and intervention for a range of neurological conditions at the inpatient ward level and also leads the outpatient service, which includes TBI, ABI, stroke, rare genetic conditions, MS, Epilepsy and their migraine service. Megan lead a multidisciplinary team as well as psychologists and clinical practitioners.

Areas of specialist expertise include:

• working with traumatic brain injury, supporting the young person’s rehabilitation as well as adjustment to behavioural and emotional differences following an injury, supporting whole families including siblings and other professionals in the system surrounding the young person.
• Clinical neuropsychological assessment and intervention
• Training and consultation for schools, particularly supporting them to implement recommendations from neuropsychological assessment.
• Specialist intervention for those experiencing physical health conditions.

Megan also works with adults where specialist skills include:

• Working with trauma and PTSD, anxiety disorders such as OCD, health anxiety adjusting to a range of long term health conditions. 

Megan provides BABCP teaching, supervision and training to clinical psychology trainees as part of the doctorate in clinical psychology at University of Bath (UoB).
